Once the largest monastery in the world, it served as the political center of Tibet during the 17th century and was the residence of the Dalai Lamas before the construction of the Potala Palace. At its peak, Drepung housed more than 10,000 monks.
Afternoon: Witness the Sera Monastery Debates
In the afternoon, continue to Sera Monastery, one of the three great Gelug monasteries in Lhasa. The highlight here is the famous Monk Debate Session, held daily between approximately 3:00 PM and 4:30 PM, where monks engage in lively philosophical debates using expressive gestures and traditional debating techniques.

Depart Lhasa early in the morning and begin your journey across the Tibetan Plateau. Your first highlight is Yamdrok Lake, visible from the Gampala Pass at 4,900 meters. Start your morning at Tashilhunpo Monastery, the historic and spiritual seat of the Panchen Lamas. As you explore this sprawling complex, you will come face-to-face with its crowning jewel: a magnificent, 26-meter-tall gilded statue of the Maitreya (Future) Buddha—celebrated as one of the largest seated Buddha statues in Tibet.
Later, begin your westward journey toward the mighty Mount Everest. Along the way, you will have multiple opportunities to admire the breathtaking Himalayan landscapes and catch spectacular views of the world’s highest peak.
First glimpse at Gyatsola Pass (5,280m): Shortly after departing Shigatse, stop at Gyatsola Pass viewpoint. Here, you’ll catch your first view of Mount Everest, peeking through the surrounding peaks like a budding lotus flower—a gentle yet captivating introduction to the giant ahead.

Everest Base Camp to Gyirong: Sunrise at Everest, Shishapangma, Pelkhu Tso Lake

- Potala Palace is closed on Mondays. If your tour falls on a Monday, the itinerary order will be adjusted accordingly. No attractions will be removed from the program.
